Hello Potatoes! Are you hungry? Because is burger time! Here you’ll find the easiest recipe for a delicious vegetarian burger with black beans.

Usually, I fill it with cheese, spread homemade beetroot sauce or eggplant sauce on the bread instead of ketchup or mustard, and serve it with my favorite crispy oven potatoes! So tasty! You have to try and you won’t lose!

Needs only a few very basic ingredients that most of the time we all have in our pantry and a few minutes to be ready. Super healthy, nutritious, and delicious.

Yield: 2 big or 4 small burgers

Prep Time: 10 min

Cooking Time: 20 min

Total Time: 30 min

Ingredients

Black Beans Burger

1 large onion, white or red, rough cut

1 large garlic clove, rough cut

270 gr canned black beans, well rinsed

1/2 cup oats

1 tsp olive oil, extra virgin

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp paprika, sweet or smoked or spicy

2 or 4 small cubes of cheese *cheddar or feta, (optional)

1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped, (optional)

1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped, (optional)

1 egg, (optional)

Extra Ingredients For Setting Up

1 large tomato, in large slices

1 large onion, white or red, in large slices

baby spinach leaves

baby arugula leaves

2 or 4 burger buns, depends on the black beans burger size

ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, beetroot dip, eggplant sauce, etc, depending on your personal preference

Directions

  1. Rinse well the canned black beans and chop roughly the onion and the garlic.
  2. Add 1 tsp olive oil in a pan and put it at medium-high heat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic and sauté for about 5 minutes until soft.
  4.  Put the black beans, the onion, and the garlic into a food processor and mix them until they become a roughly chopped mixture.
  5. Put the mixture in a bowl and add the olive oil, the oats, all the herbs and species that you prefer. *and the egg if you’re going to use it
  6. Shape the burgers to the size you want and if you want, fill them with the cheese slice in the middle.
  7.  Again, add 1 tsp olive oil in a pan and put it at medium-high heat.
  8. Cook the burgers for about 5 minutes on each side (cooking time depends on the burger size), at the end, lower the heat to cook well until inside.
  9.  At the same pan cook for 1 minute each side the tomato and onion large slices before adding them in your burger bun.
  10. Now is time to assemble your ingredients to make your favorite vegetarian burger. Add the sauce you prefer, spinach and arugula, the roasted tomato and onion slices, and of course the black beans burger. Ready! Enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage: keep in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze it for 1 month. 
  • Variations:
    • Flavored it with more garlic,
    • seasoning with cumin or chili.
  • Served: Served with delicious crispy oven potatoes.
  • Extra Tip: Roasted tomato and onion slices will add a pinch of sweetness to your black bean burger. Be careful that the slices are thick so that they do not become too thin after baking.
